The problem with hosting so many £225 buy-in tournaments is this market is saturated in the UK at the moment. The 2020 GPS has 12 of these events while Grosvenor has almost 40 of its popular 25/25 Series events scheduled throughout 2020. It feels like there is a market for a mid-stakes poker tour.

In-full live major poker tournaments will return to the U.S. with a World Poker Tour event in January.
In a Monday presser, host venue Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood announced they'd be joining forces with the WPT once again for the Lucky Hearts Poker Open. The event will fill its traditional January slot and culminate with the $3,500 WPT Main Event with a $1 million guarantee.
Furthermore, the WPT announced on Wednesday its first U.S.-based online Main Tour event, the $3,500 WPT Online Poker Open Main Event, set for a late December running in New Jersey. That one will also carry a guarantee of $1 million.

Live Poker Tournaments Uk 2020 Schedule
Jan. 22 will mark the return of the WPT to U.S. soil.
The Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event will kick off that Friday with the first of two starting flights for the $3,500 reentry event. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will see the tournament play down to a champion, who will get their name etched onto the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup and earn a place in the WPT Tournament of Champions.
The WPT Main Event will be part of an overall festival running Jan. 14-26. It will include an opening $600 multi-flight event with $300,000 guaranteed, a good mix of non-NLHE events around the $400 price point, and four other tournaments with six-figure guarantees.
The full schedule can be found here.
A WPT card hasn't been pitched in the U.S.since mid-March with the conclusion of WPT Rolling Thunder. Instead, the top brand has opted to go with the industry norm under the cloud of COVID-19, hosting a variety of huge online events, most notably the WPT World Online Championship.
Seminole Hard Rock properties reintroduced poker tournaments several months back, so they've started to ramp up the action in Florida, but nothing has been in the ballpark of the WPT LHPO's scale with its more than $2 million in total guarantees.
The WPT LHPO was last on the schedule in January 2020, when it guaranteed $2 million and created a prize pool a little under $2.7 million, drawing 843 entries.
COVID Safety Protocols
Of course, the reason the WPT and so many other poker tours have been on ice for the last eight-plus months is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Keyword being ongoing, as the situation in the U.S. and many other countries has, if anything, worsened in recent months.
Florida has been known to be one of the harder-hit states overall, and the past week at the time of writing has seen an average of 6,602 new cases per day, according to official numbers released by the state.

Knowing this, Seminole Hard Rock has instituted special 'Safe + Sound' protocols in an effort to make the playing environment as safe as possible.
- Eight-handed tables with plexiglass shielding players and dealers
- Temperature checks upon entry
- Mandatory mask usage
- Routine cleaning of chips, cards and newly-emptied seats
- Wide availability of hand sanitizer for players and employees
- 50% max capacity on the property
- State-of-the-art air filtration system designed to destroy viruses
New Jersey to Host Additional $1M Guaranteed
Those looking to get their names on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup need not wait until January, though. In fact, they don't even need to leave their own homes or play live poker at all, provided those homes are located in New Jersey.
The WPT Online Poker Open Main Event will be held Dec. 27-29 on partypoker US Network for players in New Jersey. PokerNews has already signed on to provide live reporting.
The ambitious $1 million guarantee signifies how serious the WPT and partypoker are about making this a premier poker tournament worthy of the WPT name.
“The WPT Online Poker Open brings the most prestigious prize in poker to New Jersey and the partypoker US Network,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska in a presser. “WPT’s continued pivot toward online will continue with another landmark for regulated online poker in the United States.”
Indeed, the WPT has pivoted into a strong series of online offerings, however, all were offered to the dot-com partypoker player pool, a much larger bunch of customers than the prospective New Jersey pool. Drawing the necessary entries to meet the guarantee will require some effort, and the WPT already announced satellites will be available for as little as $5.
Speaking of the dot-cam pool, they'll also get a January shot at WPT glory. WPT Montreal, traditionally occupying a November slot on the schedule, will take place on the main partypoker client. It begins with starting flights on Jan. 10 and Jan. 17, two Sundays that will play down to a short enough percent of the field that the tournament finishes Jan. 18.
That one will have a $3,200 buy-in and a $2 million guarantee. Click here for full details.
The only other WPT Main Tour events currently scheduled at WPT Russia in Sochi for mid-February and the second edition of WPT Online Series, scheduled for May.

World Poker Tour
The United Kingdom is a nation of gamblers, so is it any wonder that the small island boasts so many successful and popular poker tours? If you're looking for a live poker experience in Britain, then look no further than these delicious options:
- The PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour.
- The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour.
- The Genting Poker Series.
- The Amateur Poker Association and Tour.
- The PokerStars European Poker Tour London.
The PokerStars UK and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT)
Since its launch in December 2009 the UKIPT has been the UK's biggest televised poker tournament and the most highly-attended tour in the country.
What is it: One of PokerStars' many successful local tours, and inarguably one of the most well-run and successful poker tours in the country. It comes with a higher-than-average reg-to-fish ratio than most but the big fields give natural good value.
Money talks: Last year the events carried a typical buy-in of £1,100, up from the £770 of 2012. However, many events carried a guarantee of at least £500,000/€500,000 with Galway hosting a €1m guaranteed event. In 2020 the tour guarantees almost £2.5 million across five confirmed stops.
Are there satellites: Since the tour is sponsored by the world's largest online poker room there are naturally more satellites than you can shake a stick at - players can qualify for as little as £5.

The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT)
What do Neil Channing, James Mitchell, Jeff Kimber, and Sam Trickett have in common? They're all very successful UK pros who have made podium finishes in a GUKPT event.
What is it: The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour is one of the oldest running poker tours in the UK, and definitely one of the most successful. Anyone who's anyone in UK poker has played their fair share of these tournaments.
Money talks: The typical buy-in is £1,100 but there are many events with £550 entries - the cheapest is the Goliath in Coventry, which has a £120 buy-in and aims to break the European tournament attendance record in its upcoming event.
Are there satellites: Online, satellites are available via GrosvenorCasinos.com As the GUKPT travels the country to various locations you can usually find live satellites running ahead of the stop in your local casino.
The Genting Poker Series (GPS)
Though The Genting Poker Series is only a few years old this fledgling tour has already impressed and attracted some of UK poker's biggest names to its tables.
What is it: A small yet very well-attended and well-regarded series of tournaments in the UK that boasts winners such as Julian Thew and finalists like Ross Boatman.
Money talks: The usual buy-in for a GPS Main Event is £400. Side events carry smaller buy-ins.
Are there satellites: There's satellites running online via Genting's own online poker room - you can qualify to their Main Events for as little as £5.50 for some poker loyalty points.
The Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT)
Founded in 2006, the APAT now boasts over 20,000 members and is Europe's largest club for recreational poker players.
What is it: The Tour part of the APAT name is when they take their show on the road, with affordable yet professional tournaments across the country. Last year's Main Event carried a buy-in of just £82 but generated a £10,000 prize pool.
Money talks: Easily the most affordable tour on this list because it caters to recreational players - buy-ins range from just £30 to £100.
Are there satellites: They're thin on the ground, owing to the cheapness of the events. APAT do run an online poker room, though, so satellites to some larger events are usually available.
The PokerStars European Poker Tour London (EPT)
The biggest and most prestigious tournament on this list is the European Poker Tour London Main Event. At £5,300 it's not for the short of cash, but satellites run on PokerStars so you can win your way there.
What is it: The aforementioned Main Event is just part of the annual EPT festivities in London, as the tour comes with dozens of side events in the £100 - £3,000 range.
Money talks: As mentioned, the EPT is not for those with a small bankroll. The buy in for Main Even is £5000. There are smaller events in beforehand, which run from £100 to £3000.
Are there satellites: To the Main Event, yes. Side events generally don't have satellites running, but some of them are relatively low buy-ins.
